Recreational

Dates:
June  - August

Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday

6:15pm – 8:00pm

Program:
Created for fun, fitness, and the enjoyment of rowing, Mic Mac AAC – Rowing strives to provide a positive environment for new and experienced rowers to participate in the sport of rowing. The Recreational rowing program is targeted towards those individuals who wish to participate in the sport and club in a non-competitive relaxed environment. As a recreational rower, the club will provide coaching and the equipment necessary to participate fully in the sport. Recreational Rowers if they wish may compete in local regattas at the discretion of the coach.

Guidelines:

  • Rowers are asked to arrive at the Club at 6:00pm, ensuring that the participants can enjoy the full 1 ½ hours of rowing.  Being on time will ensure each participant gets a seat in a shell.
  • First Time Participants: Following the last session of your Learn To Row program, all participants will be invited to join the Recreational Program. Your Learn To Row Instructor will be available to provide guidance on the sign-up procedure for the Recreational Rowing Program.
  • At the end of each session, please sign-up for a seat in an available recreational shell. A list of boats and available seats will be posted in the rowing bay. This process will allow for the rowers to secure a seat in an available recreational rowing shell during the next recreational rowing time, as seats can be limited.
  • Returning recreational rowers are encouraged to create crews. Coaches will attempt to match rowers of similar skill levels. However, all decisions are based on safety, the availability of equipment, and the number of participants.
  • Please report all broken or damaged equipment to your coach.
  • Please wear snug fitting and weather appropriate clothing, as the Recreational program runs ‘rain or shine’!
  • Socks must be worn while rowing. This is an important measure to ensure proper hygiene in the rowing shoes.

Club Events and Participation:
Members of the Recreational Program are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of the club, including all social events! Your participation in fundraising, boat bay maintenance, and recruitment would also be greatly appreciated.

On Friday Evening many club members attend ‘TGIF’ above the Rowing Bays at MicMac AAC. This is an excellent opportunity to socialize with other club members, talk rowing, and enjoy a great meal.

Saturday morning, recreational rowers are invited down to the club for the scheduled row. Please advise your coach the night before to ensure equipment availability. After the row, many club members head to ROBIN’S for a coffee, and relax after the morning row.
