Junior Program
Our Junior program is designed for youth under the age of 19. Youth will have the opportunity to learn the basics of rowing in crew boats, and can progress according to their interest and individual skill development.
For the summer of 2011, our Juniors program runs from July 3 until August 26, Mondays to Fridays from 8:30 till noon. Youth will spend time with certified coaches both on the water and “dry-land” training using ergometres, running and other activities. There is a strong emphasis on safety, sportsmanship and developing healthy life skills.
The cost for the summer Juniors program is $250., which includes a membership to MicMac AAC and Rowing Canada Aviron insurance and membership. All equipment is provided, and youth should bring clothing suitable for being on the water (shorts/t-shirt/socks) and dry-land training (running shoes). They should also bring a change of clothes in case of inclement weather, snacks & water.
Juniors have the opportunity to race (novice level) at local regattas, including the Bud Myra Memorial Regatta (the Nova Scotia Sprints) on July 16 and 17, and the MicMac Around the Lakes Regatta in late August.
